Strathyre-Balquhidder-Kingshouse loop (cycle ride)

8 miles

START – on the bridge close to the Strathyre village shop. Can also be started from Kingshouse (Mhor 84), Balquhidder or done in the opposite direction. This cycle ride starts from Strathyre.

  • Bridge in Strathyre.
  • Follow alternative route.
  • Right after bridge.
  • Straight on for 2.5 miles.
  • First bridge in Balquhidder.
  • Another bridge.
  • Loch Voil.
  • Right at Balquhidder Village Hall.
  • Straight on for 3 miles.
  • Kingshouse.
  • Right turn before bridge (signposted).
  • Cycle path to Strathyre.
  • Short section next to road.
  • Back to start.

LOVELY walk as well. For all levels.

Head of Loch Tay (walk)

2.75 miles

START – Car park next to public toilets in Killin (not far from Coop).

  • Killin car park.
  • Start of the walk behind bus stop.
  • Over bridge.
  • Right here (kissing gate).
  • Gorgeous little beach!
  • Left after gate (old railway line).
  • Back over bridge and to the start.

STUNNING short walk!
NOT TOO boggy, easy and well signposted.

Alongside Loch Lednock Reservoir (walk)

6 miles

START – Invergeldie car park, Comrie.

  • Invergeldie car park.
  • Follow tarmac road.
  • Follow signpost to Ardeonaig (left).
  • Ignore left track.
  • End of tarmac road.
  • Scottish Hydro Lednock Power Station.

FANTASTIC way of spending 3 hours! Gorgeous place.
NO SIGNPOST after first mile. Not clear how to go to Ardeonaig. To explore further.
NO OBVIOUS path to do a loop from the Lednock Power Station. Easier to retrace one’s steps.

The Mushroom Farm Walk (as called by locals)

2 miles (from cycle path)

START – cycle path in Callander (at the junction of Livingston Avenue and Glen Gardens) or park in lay-by just opposite.

  • Cycle path.
  • Right turn into the wood.
  • A84 (short section on pavement).
  • Parking spaces here.
  • After crossing the A84.
  • Mushroom Farm on the left.
  • Straight on.
  • Private cemetery.
  • Left here (right path dead end).
  • Down steps.
  • Right here.
  • Back to the Mushroom Farm.

SHORT loop, popular with dog walkers.

Old Kilmadock Cemetery

4 miles

START – Fir Road in Doune (on the A84).

  • Straight on (ignore left track).
  • Tricky kissing gate for bikes.
  • Cool bench!
  • Through gate.
  • Straight on to next gate.
  • Join A84 (opposite the Moray Estates)
  • Retrace steps.

LOVELY walk next to the river Teith, well signposted.
A GOOD alternative to the A84 when cycling from Callander to Doune. One problematic kissing gate for bikes (will have to be carried over). Will be putting this path to a cycling test soon…

Loch Rusky (shorter walk)

2.5 miles (one way)

START – Track on the right side of the A81 coming from Callander (just after the Balvalachlan Farm on the left). A few parking spaces.

  • Loch Rusky, 2 miles.
  • Left here.
  • Cross A81.
  • Right turn here (after the loch, track is a dead end).

LOCH RUSKY is very popular with fishermen, but this track doesn’t appear to give access to it (barbed wire around it)! Not sure which track fishermen use. To be continued…

Loch Rusky (walk)

5 miles (one way)

START – In Callander. Follow A81 sign to Glasgow (on your right coming from Strathyre) and turn left at first roundabout. Look out for two small pillars on the right very shortly after roundabout (start of the walk).

  • Ignore right track.
  • Ignore right track.
  • Signpost.
  • Left for Loch Rusky (right for Ben Gullipen)
  • Nice picnic table!
  • Down left through gate (cows about!)
  • Left here.
  • Cross A81.
  • Ignore right track (dead end).
  • Follow signpost.
  • Right turn to Loch Rusky.
  • Nice bench!
  • Loch Rusky.

SHORTER walk possible (if you go straight at the nice picnic table instead of going down left through the gate, there are 3 or 4 parking spaces there on the A81).
