Strathyre-Callander walk (bus return)

9 miles

START – Car park (free) near The Broch Café in Strathyre. Return by bus (C60 – https://bustimes.org/services/c60-callander-killin).

The Broch Cafe entrance on the A84.
Space for a few cars.
Follow cycle track (well signposted).
First glimpse of Loch Lubnaig.
Left down to ‘the zigzag’.
Great spot!
Follow main track at ‘the brae’.
Lovely little beach!
Towards the Strathyre Forest cabins.
The Retreat (great coffee shop).
The Falls of Leny.
Fantastic spot!
Road to cross.
Towards Callander.
Callander.
Bus stop on Main Street at The War Memorial for return.

Great walk! Mostly flat. Lovely Retreat to have coffee or lunch on the way.
Started at 9.30 am from Strathyre, took the bus back at 13.48 pm from Callander.
Highly recommended on a sunny day!

Loch Earn to Loch Lubnaig (via Glen Ample)

6 miles

START – Path on the South Loch Earn Road close to the Edinample Lodge (before the small bridge).

Well signposted.
Tricky to cross.
Tricky to cross.

Lay-by on the A84.

Loch Lubnaig to Loch Earn (via Glen Ample)

6 miles

START on the A84. When travelling from Strathyre to Callander, look for signpost on the left just before a house with two pillars. Lay-by to park.

Path next to house with 2 pillars (signposted).
Path uphill (a bit of a mess).
Turn right at junction.
Left at 2nd junction.
Hill path to Ben Each on the right (signposted).
Tricky to cross!
Tricky to cross as well!
Overgrown path.
Turn right at junction.
South Loch Earn Road (next to small bridge).
Edinample Lodge.

Very varied walk! 2 tricky spots to cross if you don’t want your feet wet. Steep start.
Well signposted.

Glen Ample (from Loch Lubnaig)

The first 2 miles (out of 6 to Loch Earn)

START – Lay-by on the right of the A84 roughly a couple of miles before Strathyre coming from Callander. Look out for house with 2 pillars, the start of the path (signposted) is next to it.

Goes on for a bit…

Great place! To do after a dry spell as some burn crossings can be tricky. Will carry on to Loch Earn next time.

Beinn An t-Sidhean (walk)

5 miles

START – Strathyre Village Shop.

Strathyre Village Shop.
Towards bridge and school.
Over bridge.
Left towards school (and cycle path to Callander).
Path on he right.
Path on the left.
Lovely viewpoint.
Nice boulder to sit on.
Final push.
Great view over Loch Lubnaig!

Manageable ascent. A lovely viewpoint and a cool boulder to have a break on the way. Great views over Strathyre and Loch Lubnaig.

Stank Glen loop (walk)

5.25 miles

START – Strathyre Forest cabins between Strathyre and Callander. Parking spaces on the left and on the right side of the bridge. Arrive early especially in the summer.

Parking left of the bridge (often full).
Walk on minor road towards the cabins.
Look out for gate before shed.
Left here.
Follow path ahead (blue-marked).
Waterfall.
Go right.
Path on the left.
Left here.
Tricky to cross.
Burn to cross.
Path becomes a track.
Turn right.
Towards cabins and minor road.
Walk back to bridge.

Great loop!
Useful to have directions from the Walkhighlands website (very accurate).
Lovely coffee shop at the Forest cabins.

Strathyre short loop (Coille MacCaskill Path)

1.75 miles

START – Village Shop car park in Strathyre.

  • Village Shop car park.
  • Walk towards bridge.
  • Cross the road at the bridge.
  • Right track, behind church.
  • Cairn.
  • Right at junction (Rob Roy Way).
  • Signpost a bit further on the left.
  • Coille MacCaskill Path.
  • Follow path.
  • Left at junction.
  • Bridge.
  • Immediately on the right after bridge.
  • Broch Café.
  • Cross road.
  • Cycle path behind houses.
  • Back to Village Shop.

PLEASANT short walk.

Strathyre-Stroneslaney loop (walk)

4 miles approx.

START – Bridge in Strathyre (not far from the village shop).

  • Bridge in Strathyre.
  • Left here (school).
  • Look for path on the right.
  • Follow Beinn An t-Sidhean
  • Right at 2nd signpost.
  • Ignore 3rd signpost, go straight on.
  • Left here (right goes back to road).
  • Follow track with barrier.
  • Balquhidder through the trees.
  • Follow track down.
  • Towards Stroneslaney Road.
  • Take right.
  • After around a mile and a half…
  • Back to Strahtyre (bridge).

Could be extended to include Balquhidder and Kingshouse (return to Strathyre via the cycle track). Good walk.

Strathyre-Balquhidder-Kingshouse loop (cycle ride)

8 miles

START – on the bridge close to the Strathyre village shop. Can also be started from Kingshouse (Mhor 84), Balquhidder or done in the opposite direction. This cycle ride starts from Strathyre.

  • Bridge in Strathyre.
  • Follow alternative route.
  • Right after bridge.
  • Straight on for 2.5 miles.
  • First bridge in Balquhidder.
  • Another bridge.
  • Loch Voil.
  • Right at Balquhidder Village Hall.
  • Straight on for 3 miles.
  • Kingshouse.
  • Right turn before bridge (signposted).
  • Cycle path to Strathyre.
  • Short section next to road.
  • Back to start.

LOVELY walk as well. For all levels.
