Ben Gullipen (longer walk)

6 miles approx.

START – Track on the A81, around 3 miles from Callander.
To get there from Callander, follow the A81 (direction Glasgow). After junction with the B822 (Thornhill) on your left, go past a white cottage on the right. From the cottage, look out for the second access road on your right. Spaces for a few cars.

BETTER to have directions in hand as there are a few junctions.
For an easier walk, park at the next (third) road access (see separate post).

Ben Gullipen (quicker route)

3 miles approx.

START – Track on the A81, 3 miles or so from Callander. Follow the A81 from Callander (direction Glasgow). After junction with the B822 (Thornhill) on your left, go past a white cottage on the right. From the cottage, look out for the third access road on your right. Spaces for 4 or 5 cars nearly opposite.

NOT TOO strenuous walk and it’s always straight on!
SUPPOSED to be the best view in the Trossachs, but was cloudy today. Will go again.

The Mushroom Farm Walk (as called by locals)

2 miles (from cycle path)

START – cycle path in Callander (at the junction of Livingston Avenue and Glen Gardens) or park in lay-by just opposite.

SHORT loop, popular with dog walkers.

Loch Rusky (shorter walk)

2.5 miles (one way)

START – Track on the right side of the A81 coming from Callander (just after the Balvalachlan Farm on the left). A few parking spaces.

LOCH RUSKY is very popular with fishermen, but this track doesn’t appear to give access to it (barbed wire around it)! Not sure which track fishermen use. To be continued…

Loch Rusky (walk)

5 miles (one way)

START – In Callander. Follow A81 sign to Glasgow (on your right coming from Strathyre) and turn left at first roundabout. Look out for two small pillars on the right very shortly after roundabout (start of the walk).

SHORTER walk possible (if you go straight at the nice picnic table instead of going down left through the gate, there are 3 or 4 parking spaces there on the A81).

Callander Crags

4 miles

START – Tulipan Crescent in Callander (first road on the left before Tesco when coming from Strathyre).

STEEP at the beginning but well worth the effort.
FROM the Cairn to the tarmac road, path not easy to find in snowy conditions.
TWO lovely benches with great views on the way!
Great loop!

St Fillans-Lochearnhead-Kingshouse-Callander-Comrie cycle loop

45 miles approx.

START – can be started from one of the above villages/town and done in the opposite direction. This ride starts from St Fillans.

THE ROUTE
First section on the A85 towards Lochearnhead (other option: South Loch Earn Road – minor road).
In Lochearnhead, follow the cycle path (route 7) towards Kingshouse/Strathyre/Callander.
In Callander, Ancaster Road leads to the Bracklinn Falls car park. Follow the tarmac road from the car park, then track, to Glen Artney Church car park (lovely bothy on the way) and to Comrie.
The last 6 miles from Comrie to St Fillans are on a cycle path.

FANTASTIC loop to do. The section from Callander to the bothy is the hardest (very steep climb to reach the Bracklinn Falls car park).

Station Road-Bracklinn Falls loop (walk)

4 miles approx.

START – Station Road car park in Callander.

ON a cycle path through town to start with, then on forest tracks.
GOOD option when the Bracklinn Falls and Callander Crags car parks are busy (can be in the summer).

Bochastle-Coilhannan Wood loop (walk)

4.5 miles

START – Bochastle car park (can be started from the Main Street in Callander or being done in the opposite direction).

EASY walk.
